When it is about planning a trip to Begusarai, best advisable season is during October to March when weather remains pleasant and cool in this city. Kabar Jheel

Kabar Jheel or Kabar Taal Lake is Asia’s largest freshwater oxbow lake. It lies in Manjhaul sub-division of Begusarai district. Kabar Lake is natural shelter of hundreds of species of endangered and rare domestic and migrant birds. Kabar Jheel is also famous for its bird sanctuary and is one of the most visited picnic spots in Begusarai.

Jai Mangla Temple

Jai Mangla Temple is one of the most visited tourist places in Begusarai. It is located at Jaimangalgarh which lies on southern flake of Kanwar Lake and devoted to Goddess Jai Mangla who is the presiding deity of this temple. This temple is also famous as Shaktipeeth among locals and devotees come to offer their prayers and get blessings of deity from distant places.

Nawlakha Temple

Nawlakha temple is an ancient temple located in Bishnupur area of Begusarai. As per earlier records and folklores, it is said that this temple was built by Mahanth Deer Das Ji in middle of 17th century. Later, it got renovated by Mahanth Mahavir Das in 1952. At present, Nawlakha Temple is much popular among devotees for its devotional significance and among tourists for its glittering look which showcase exclusive work of Makrana and Italian tiles.

Simaria Ghat

Begusarai feels proud to be the birth place of famous Hindi poet, Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’. Simaria gram, where this veteran poet was born is located at south-eastern boundary of Begusarai district. Simaria is situated on north bank of River Ganga and thus ‘Simaria Bank’ or ‘Simaria Ghat’ is famous as sacred place among devotees. And the most famous Simaria Mela of Begusarai is also held here during month of Kartik annually.

Kanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary

Wildlife in BegusaraiKanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary is famous for being shelter and resting place of numbers of species of beautiful domestic and migratory birds. It covers an area of approx. 67.5 sq km. Some of the birds which can be seen in this region are of critically endangered species such as Oriental White-backed Vulture and Long-billed Vulture, many other come in category of near threatened like Darter Anhinga, Painted Stork and Black-bellied Tern and few other come in group of vulnerable species including Greater Spotted Eagle, Greater Adjutant, Lesser Kestrel and Sarus Crane. Migratory birds from Central Asia, specifically from Siberia and Himalayan region come a long way to Kabar Lake during winter season. Besides, this place becomes much beautiful during spring and winter season due to presence of a variety of aquatic plants. For nature lovers and bird watchers, Kanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary is the perfect place to visit in Begusarai.

Begusarai Museum

Begusarai also houses a government museum named as, Begusarai Museum which was established in 1981. This museum is one of the most captivating historical attractions in Begsuarai as it has collection of unique specimens of stone sculptures and coins which belong to Pal period. Besides, it houses a number of rare artifacts and exquisite art-objects which have been collected within Begusarai and the adjoining areas of the district.

How to Reach Begusarai ?

By Road: Begusarai is well connected with all Indian cities by road. Apart from being main rail head, Barauni is connected to southern part of Bihar by Rajendra Bridge which serves as road and rail both ways. NH 28 and NH 31 are two major national highways crossing through this district and meet at Zero Mile which is also known as Dinkar Chowk. Bihar State Road Transport Corporation provides bus services in Begusarai for long distance places. Besides, several private bus service providers also offer private bus service within state and for nearby cities of Jharkhand and west Bengal.

Begusarai Junction

By Rail: Begusarai Junction is located on the Barauni-Katihar section of East Central Railway in Bihar state of India. Barauni railway station is the main rail head and situated approx. 15 km far from the district headquarter. Hathidah railway station is the other major railway station in Begusarai and situated about 20 km distant from district headquarter. Thus, Begusarai avails good rail connectivity and is well connected with other parts of the country via railways.

By Air:
Jaya Prakash Narayan International Airport is the nearest airport located at Patna which is about 120km away from Begusarai. State and private bus services and car rental or taxi services are available from Patna to Begusarai.
